Hi Jules,

I killed and removed the keyring deamon/folder, but unfortionally within a second the error about scanning folders.

The log is attached below.

This time I changed to the internal IP adres, so there is no firewall in front of the machine.

Should evolution always give the password prompt? Or if it cant connect, is there then no prompt?

So maybe I have to focus on the connection, and install Lorica?

I am using the default lorica.conf.evolution-brutus.

That one is merely a template for a correct e-b functioning Lorica :-)
You need to:

1) Stop Lorica

2) cp lorica.conf.evolution-brutus /etc/lorica.conf

3) edit the external endpoint in lorica.conf

4) start Lorica

On the server side, should the option "use lorica" be set to yes? I
would guess so.

Yes.

Do I need to do anything on the server side to make this work?

Not really - provided that you installed Brutus Enterprise Server. The
plain Brutus Server do not have the needed service dependancies set up.

No, not a server problem. The server claims that your callback object
is nil. This will typically happen if your local client Lorica is
misconfigured.

Feels very close now though!

I think that your client Lorica might be misconfigured. Could you
please send me "lorica.conf" ?

Also tell me if this is starting to become a subject for the mailing
list instead.

Indeed it is, and has been for some time now. Shall we move to the

Ok, I did exactly as you said, but still no password prompt. I also
searched for a hidden window, but I found none.

I think that b-k thinks that you already have a password stored.
Please do:

1) killall brutus-keyringd

2) rm -rf ~/.brutus-keyringd

This will definitely force e-b to ask you for a password. But - The
server bugs you about a TRANSIENT exception. I'm inclined to believe
that you need Lorica in both ends to get this to work. It seems that
something is NAT'ing in between server and client.

A NAT related bug has been fixed. The explanation is too convoluted to
put here (go look in the lorica-list archives), but the short story is
that if your client box wasn't routable from your Brutus Server box,
due to intervening routers/firewalls doing NAT, then your connection
attempt to Brutus Server would fail due to a TRANSIENT exception
caught by the server. This has now been fixed in svn.
I expect this to be the underlying reason for several problem reports
to this list. Updated Hardy debs has been released.

Hi Jules,
Thank you for your fast response. I probably send you the wrong log,
cause I have here the same log without the whitespace error, and a
correctly filed in password. Sorry for that.
Could not connect to Brutus server
No IMAPISession offer - releasing query lock
Unfortunately I can't send you the right log, cause it's located on
my laptop.
I just tried to install brutus-evolution and keyring on this
computer, and now do not even get a user/password prompt. I had the
same problem with my laptop, but this just disapered somehow by
restarting a few times.
I restarted my PC about 5 times, but I cant get any prompts, even if
im using the exact same configuration. The log Is located below. It
Error while scanning folders.
Do you have any idea why no prompt show up at the moment?
I use the newest brutus-evolution and keyring for Ubuntu Hardy..

Hi All,
Today we start experimenting with with Brutus, but unfortionally we
are experiencing some problems with getting the client connected. We
have Googled a lot about the errors, but did not find any working
solutions to our problem.
We have installed Brutus server using the Quick Start in the readme,
this worked out fine.
At the moment the Brutus client with Evolution gives us the

Cause of the Could not connect error, we have disabled all the
firewalls for a moment, and this also did not help.
Server: Windows 2003 64Bit, Exchange 2007, Brutus server. (newest
binary)
Client: Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 32bit, Evolution, Brutus-evolution, Brutus-

That log entry tells me that Brutus Keyring is confused, or rather
that you did not enter your Windows password when prompted to do so.
Please check that you enter a password and it must not be all
whitespace.

Thank you for your fast response. I probably send you the wrong log,
cause I have here the same log without the whitespace error, and a
correctly filed in password. Sorry for that.
Could not connect to Brutus server
No IMAPISession offer - releasing query lock
Unfortunately I can't send you the right log, cause it's located on
my laptop.
I just tried to install brutus-evolution and keyring on this
computer, and now do not even get a user/password prompt.

OK, that looks like problems with the installation itself.

I had the same problem with my laptop, but this just disapered
somehow by restarting a few times.
I restarted my PC about 5 times, but I cant get any prompts, even if
im using the exact same configuration. The log Is located below. It
Error while scanning folders.
Do you have any idea why no prompt show up at the moment?

No idea. Do you have staled processes from earlier installations? Is
the password prompt merely hidden below the Evolution main window??
px -ax | grep brutus
1) Kill everything Brutus related, including Evolution using
"evolution --force-shutdown",
2) Update e-b to 1.2.20
3) Try again
Please send me the client and server log when you're done.

Hi Jules,
I killed and removed the keyring deamon/folder, but unfortionally
within a second the error about scanning folders.
The log is attached below.
This time I changed to the internal IP adres, so there is no
firewall in front of the machine.
Should evolution always give the password prompt? Or if it cant
connect, is there then no prompt?
So maybe I have to focus on the connection, and install Lorica?

1) Stop Lorica
2) cp lorica.conf.evolution-brutus /etc/lorica.conf
3) edit the external endpoint in lorica.conf
4) start Lorica

On the server side, should the option "use lorica" be set to yes? I
would guess so.

Do I need to do anything on the server side to make this work?

Not really - provided that you installed Brutus Enterprise Server. The
plain Brutus Server do not have the needed service dependancies set up.

No, not a server problem. The server claims that your callback object
is nil. This will typically happen if your local client Lorica is
misconfigured.

Feels very close now though!

I think that your client Lorica might be misconfigured. Could you
please send me "lorica.conf" ?

Also tell me if this is starting to become a subject for the mailing
list instead.

Ok, I did exactly as you said, but still no password prompt. I also
searched for a hidden window, but I found none.

I think that b-k thinks that you already have a password stored.
1) killall brutus-keyringd
2) rm -rf ~/.brutus-keyringd
This will definitely force e-b to ask you for a password. But - The
server bugs you about a TRANSIENT exception. I'm inclined to believe
that you need Lorica in both ends to get this to work. It seems that
something is NAT'ing in between server and client.

Hi,
A NAT related bug has been fixed. The explanation is too convoluted to
put here (go look in the lorica-list archives), but the short story is
that if your client box wasn't routable from your Brutus Server box,
due to intervening routers/firewalls doing NAT, then your connection
attempt to Brutus Server would fail due to a TRANSIENT exception
caught by the server. This has now been fixed in svn.
I expect this to be the underlying reason for several problem reports
to this list. Updated Hardy debs has been released.

cause I have here the same log without the whitespace error, and a
correctly filed in password. Sorry for that.
Could not connect to Brutus server
No IMAPISession offer - releasing query lock
Unfortunately I can't send you the right log, cause it's located on
my laptop.
I just tried to install brutus-evolution and keyring on this
computer, and now do not even get a user/password prompt. I had the
same problem with my laptop, but this just disapered somehow by
restarting a few times.
I restarted my PC about 5 times, but I cant get any prompts, even if
im using the exact same configuration. The log Is located below. It
Error while scanning folders.
Do you have any idea why no prompt show up at the moment?
I use the newest brutus-evolution and keyring for Ubuntu Hardy..

Hi All,
Today we start experimenting with with Brutus, but unfortionally we
are experiencing some problems with getting the client connected. We
have Googled a lot about the errors, but did not find any working
solutions to our problem.
We have installed Brutus server using the Quick Start in the readme,
this worked out fine.
At the moment the Brutus client with Evolution gives us the

Cause of the Could not connect error, we have disabled all the
firewalls for a moment, and this also did not help.
Server: Windows 2003 64Bit, Exchange 2007, Brutus server. (newest
binary)
Client: Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 32bit, Evolution, Brutus-evolution, Brutus-
keyring. (newest binary)
