I installed the Brutus server on a Windows 2003 server box with the included
steps in the readme. When I connect from Evolution I am prompted for my
password and after I enter it I get an error saying "error scanning folders
on the exchange server". The server log shows that the user successfully
authenticated, but then it shows the following two errors:

Ah, yes...

The first error about not being able to scan the Exchange folders are
normal. It is merely e-b saying that it was trying to scan but the
logon hasn't happened yet. I can also see below that you actually
succeed in logging on to Exchange but then there is silence from
Brutus Server. Iøve seen this before and have absolutely no idea of
why this happens.

I've made a server with additional debugging output for the first two
nontrivial functions that e-b invokes. Could you please try installing
that one and send my the server log?

The install is expecting Lorica to be present but it should be able to
function without as far as I remember.

Hi Rich,
I installed the Brutus server on a Windows 2003 server box with the
included steps in the readme. When I connect from Evolution I am prompted
for my password and after I enter it I get an error saying "error scanning
folders on the exchange server". The server log shows that the user
Ah, yes...
The first error about not being able to scan the Exchange folders are
normal. It is merely e-b saying that it was trying to scan but the logon
hasn't happened yet. I can also see below that you actually succeed in
logging on to Exchange but then there is silence from Brutus Server. Iøve
seen this before and have absolutely no idea of why this happens.
I've made a server with additional debugging output for the first two
nontrivial functions that e-b invokes. Could you please try installing that
one and send my the server log?

The install is expecting Lorica to be present but it should be able to
function without as far as I remember.

The log shows that BrutusLogOn::GetVersion() works and that you can
log on, but then it goes quiet. Is that really the complete server
log? What does the client log tell?

Please try to run the C sample(*). It may be easier to debug.

client: "make stubs ; make". Now create "samples/config/client.conf"

Ok, I finally got it to compile and was able to run it. Attached

client and that you are authenticated and logged on successfully, but
then it stops. I've seen this problem before but never been able to
reproduce it. It is like the spawned process is killed by a third
party program before it is able to do anything interesting.

Has the Brutus server got any anti virus programs installed? It may
wrongly believe that any program which is spawning other programs is
bad and should be stopped?

What happens if you ping(*) the session before calling InitMailBox()?

Sigh, something is killing the server side process (not the server but
the client proxy). Or maybe it is crashing... It is hard to tell as I
can't reproduce it here. It would be really, really good if someone

I just didn't send the complete log. Here's what I did though just
to confirm that I did it correctly. Within the samples/C directory
I ran "svn up", "make stubs", and then "make". I then ran the

the client proxy). Or maybe it is crashing... It is hard to tell as I
can't reproduce it here. It would be really, really good if someone
which is able to reproduce this problem could debug it on the server
side.
